Remember this is an intolerance not an allergy, there is a difference. Being intolerant to something means you may be able to tolerate a certain amount. For instance someone may be able to have a few cups of milky coffee, while others won't be able to take a drop, before side effects kick in.
So if you display a combination of any of the following (after eating something with lactose), chances are you are lactose intolerant:
- Headaches (often severe for me)
- Farting (smelly, sore and regular)
- Severe stomach cramps
- Loose stools and usually come quite quick after eating the food
- Swollen tummy
- Sickness feeling - you may even be sick for a few hours
- A general 'feeling like crap' feeling, which usually lasts for a few days
Remember that one of these alone doesn't necessarily mean you are lactose intolerant!
