Glasgow

Just a quick note to say our thoughts are with those affected and involved in the tragedy.

St Andrew's Day is our anniversary (many years together) and a day of celebration in Scotland. Not today, but it has shown the kindness and bravery of our nation.

Tesco High Juice Orange, Mandarin and Lemon

Another of the diluting juices with no sweeteners.

This is really nice! It sorta tastes like tangerines, which is a good thing! Get through this one quite quickly!

Mug Shot Chinese Style

I've recently become obsessed with the Mug Shots. A few of them have milk, but most are fine.

This one is the lowest in calories that I've found! 166 isn't too bad at all!

It doesn't really taste very chinese like, but does have the 5 spices kinda flavour to it.

Morrisons Rough Scottish Oatcakes

Another thing we've been having at our cheese parties!

My hubby loves these and I didn't really bother with them. Not really a big oatcake fan but I knew I could have these ones. I think a lot of the other brands may contain milk. We had a cheese party one night and he suggested I try them, oh my I was taken aback at how tasty they are with cheese.

Highly recommend them with cheese :-)

Golden Wonder Tomato Ketchup Crisps

I really don't like Tomato Ketchup but these taste immense!

Strange that! But highly recommend them :-)

Tesco Free From Soya Lemon Dessert

This is a nice wee treat from time to time.

It tastes of lemon and has little lemon pieces in it. Lol it's very small though so a few spoonfuls and it's gone!

It's nice and if you like lemon you'll probably like this too!

My trip to the dietitian

I've been meaning to post this for ages! Have time today so here goes!

Back in spring this year I had a really bad bout of sinusitis. I was quite surprised as I'd never had any sort of sinus trouble before, even when I've had bad colds my sinuses were okay. I'm sure it was related to my job as I worked in a very cold environment.

My doctor gave me many pills, one of which contained lactose which I only realised when I got home and read the instructions. I went back to see the doc and told her about me being LI. She frantically checked my medical record and saw no mention of it. She was quite abrupt with me and doubted me, it was like she didn't believe me! She then decided to refer me to the dietitian. I don't think she was happy that I was self diagnosed.

I went to the appointment and spoke with the dietitian, she seemed really nice. I told her I was nervous because I was worried she might make me consume milk. She laughed and told me not to worry! I told her all about my experiences and my trials and errors with milk products. I think she knew, I knew what I was talking about unlike the doc.

She didn't really have to go into much detail about what I had to avoid, as I already knew. However, she did flag up a recent iron test I had and that pointed out that my iron was low. I've suffered from anaemia a few times and was quite surprised at the result, something which I think the doc should have phoned about. I told her that I eat salads and take over-the-counter iron pills, but I mentioned that I always drink very strong tea with meals. She then told me that the tannins in the tea hinder the absorption of the iron, minerals and all the good things and recommended having orange juice with my dinner. She also recommended taking calcium tablets too. With the amount of cheese I'm eating I should be okay, but I still take the calcium and iron tabs just in case!

I researched this (okay googled it!) and sure enough tannins do this. I never knew that and always thought it was the caffeine that was the culprit, that's why I always had tea.

So now when eating I avoid drinking tea or coffee and stick to orange juice or diluting juice. The problem comes when I got out for eats, I tend to drink coffee or tea as I'm usually safer with them than a soft drink, as I don't know what nasties are in the soft drinks.

So that's me "officially" Lactose Intolerant. It's on my record for life lol.

Morrisons Grated Mature Cheddar - safe cheese

Oh my another safe cheese and what a tasty one at that!

This is very tasty and is often found on top of pasta in my house! The hubby also uses it for cheese sauces and mac cheese.

I love it and we usually end up buying one a week.

Tuesday 19 November 2013

Tesco Ken Hom Oriental - 10 Chicken Wonton Selection

I fancied trying these and thought I'd get them as a wee treat for me and the hubby.

They certainly don't look much with my poor photograph, but they are very tasty! My hubby loved them. I found the green Thai ones were slightly spicy, but remember I have a very low tolerance to spicy!

I'd buy them again for sure! I think they are only available in the larger Tesco stores.

On a side note, I'm not too pleased with the way Tesco and other companies have changed the allergy advice. I'm getting around to writing to them as I find it slightly more awkward to read, particularly the bold! I was thinking if people had allergies/intolerances and had issues with reading, they would find it very difficult to find the info they needed. Whereas before, it was easy to find and understand.

Hovis Medium Wholemeal Loaf

This is a favourite loaf of mine. Our household eats it a lot and I have sandwiches with it for lunch at work.

It tends to be cheaper in Aldi and Lidl, compared to the steep prices in Asda and Tesco!!!

Thursday 14 November 2013

Tesco Cream Crackers

I've been eating these with the real cheeses I've been posting about recently!

These taste good. Just like the leading brand! Excellent with cheese :-)

Tuesday 12 November 2013

veg.out Supreme Sos Roll

This is the baby sister of the Jumbo Sos Roll!

As you can see it's not as large! It's very tasty and didn't take me long to eat it! Had it cold and it was good.

Worth a try for sure!

Sunday 10 November 2013

Sainsbury's Lime Cordial

Another diluting juice.

This is a very tasty drink and I find myself getting through it pretty quickly! It's nice with pure orange juice too. And it's fairly cheap - think it was about 60p or thereabouts.

Saturday 9 November 2013

Tesco Roquefort - safe cheese

Continuing the trend of real cheese that I can eat, here is another gem.

This cheese tastes kinda weird, hard to describe, but it's so good!

Had been eating it with the crackers. Me and the hubby were having cheese & cracker parties lol!

Friday 8 November 2013

Tesco Everyday Value Multigrain Crackers

This is one of the types of crackers I had with the cheeses.

These are strangely sweet and salty at the same time. They are definitely savoury though! The crackers as quite small, about half the size of a standard square shaped one. Two bites and they are gone, but they are very tasty!

Tesco Finest Taleggio DOP - safe cheese

Tesco currently have an offer of 3 for 2 on selected Finest cheese. And to my surprise there are a few I can eat. Though these only tend to be available in the larger stores. I got 3!

First up...

This tastes lovely, kinda reminds me of alcohol but only just.

I had it with various types of crackers which I'll be posting as well.

I'm just so happy there is a good range of different cheeses that I can eat! And the fact I can eat real cheese too, wooo!

Thursday 7 November 2013

Asda Bakery - 2 Pineapple Tarts

These are tasty and often sell out pretty quickly :-( I've stuck my finger there for size reference! The pastry is quite soft and the top is hard. Then you get to the filling and it's just amazing! Recommend these.

New Labels

I've have just updated the labels, to the right side ---->

It should make it easier if you are searching for a specific type of food.

I'm open to suggestions, so let me know what you think of my labelling system :-)

Asda Smart Price Curry Noodle Snack

I'm quite lazy sometimes so these can be quite handy to have in the cupboard.

It isn't too spicy and it's okay. Not the best quality food but okay if you are in a hurry or too lazy! These 'Pot Noodle' kind of snacks often have lactose in them, so it's rare to find ones without!

Cheap and cheerful!

Monday 4 November 2013

Ainsley Harriott - Lemon, Mint and Parsley Cous Cous

I'm  fan of cous cous and this is quite tasty. It has the kick of the lemon and the hint of mint too. I can't remember where I bought this from probably available in the major supermarkets anyway!

Sunday 3 November 2013

Sainsbury's High Juice Pink Grapefruit

Continuing the hunt for those artificial sweetener free diluting juices, I found this delight a while back. Oh my gosh I love it!

Now I really like the juice and it's very tasty. I tend to have my diluting juices very weak and even as weak as I have mine, you still get that little grapefruit kick!

Highly recommend this one :-)

Saturday 2 November 2013

Tesco Finest Applewood Smoked Wafer Thin Ham

This is a very tasty ham and very moreish. I often have it on my sandwiches for lunch at work.

It's not fatty and I feel comfortable eating it. There are lots of fatty meats that I don't like and usually feel uncomfortable eating them as they often upset my delicate tum tum. My cat even loves it and he knows a thing or two!

Morrisons Mature Lighter Cheese Slices - safe cheese

Another safe cheese find and thanks to hubby. I've got him well trained lol!

This is very tasty and quite crumbly. It's good with a ham sandwich hehe. I used a Tesco Ham with I'll post about next, the end result was this:
To die for! Sadly my new phone has a rubbish camera. I'll try and post the info once I get a better pic!

Edit - info:
