Yup sadly I've suffered from serious blog neglect!
Must try to post more often on here! Not that I've got any followers to worry about!
Oh well on with the rest of my 21st of Dec 2012!
A site for those who cannot tolerate lactose! My hope is to post interesting things related to lactose intolerance, food talk and my experiences. UK based and only applies to Lactose Intolerance.

Tesco Free From Creamy Garlic and Herb Spread
Spied this when I was doing my shopping in Tesco a few weeks ago. Since I cannot eat other spreading cheese or similar then I'm stuck with the dairy free option. So in the basket it went, much to hubby's delight!
I usually have it with the dark rye Ryvita, it's a good combo!
I'd have to say this tastes a wee bit strange, kinda gritty and no it's not the Ryvita! It's hard to explain. Maybe I'm spoiled being able to eat real cheese, I don't know. I do like it and it's also good on sannys too.
They have another one in my local store which I bought the other day, so I'll be trying it once this one is finished, I think it's just a plain one.

veg.out Jerky Jamaican Lattice
Another veg.out lattice!
And the lattice.
I like this, but it's not my favourite! It's slightly spicy, mild if you can handle spice. I can't!
I'd eat it again, but would be thinking about the Steakless lol!

This has to be one of the most amazing milks I've tried to date! How awesome is coconut - mega!
Very good and I'd cannot recommend it enough!

Recently I've been drinking...... Asda Soya Milk Unsweetened
Asda's own brand unsweetened Soya Milk mixed with some Alpro Light Single Cream. Great combo, you should try it hehe.
The combo is really good and creamy. I had bought the cream with the hope of cooking with it and used it in scones instead of the soya milk. And started putting the left overs into my cup of milk hehe.

veg.out No Steak & Onion Pie
Please note as of May 2013 Holland and Barrett have discontinued this :-(
This has to be my second fav from the veg.out range, behind Steakless Bake!
And the pie once it's out the packet.
And inside once it's cooked.
This filling is pretty good as there is quite a fair bit. This is such an awesome tasting pie, love it. Good with chips and beans LOL. The filling tastes a wee bit like the Steakless Bake but a wee bit more salty! Hmmm yummy happy tummy.

Asda Swiss Gruyere - safe cheese
Today we have another safe cheese. This is quite tasty and Mr Non-Lactose Intolerant uses it to make home made cottage pie, yum yum. He does most of the cooking in the house and fully understands my lactose intolerance, thankfully!

veg.out Steakless Bake
OMG I love these. Out of all the veg.out stuff I'd have to say these are my favourite. They are muchos yummyos.
On a plate.
And sliced open.
It's quite random from lattice to lattice as far is filling goes. This one didn't seem to have much!

Asda Mozzarella Cheese Slice - safe cheese
I've decided to make posts on 'safe cheese' that I happen to stumble upon!
Today we have Asda's own brand of Mozzarella slices! They make awesome pizzas!

How do you feel about being Lactose Intolerant?
Do you sometimes feel like you wish you weren't?
Are you happy you are?
Have you learned to live with it?
Are you really not happy with it?
I think for me, as times goes on, I'm happy that I am. For one it's made me much more aware of what I eat. I used to hate it not being able to each cheese, but since discovering I can eat certain types this has made life soooooooooo much easier. Also expanded my waist line hehe.
I know now, there is certainly a great range of food stuff that is lactose/dairy free. It wasn't that great a range available in the UK about 10 years ago.
I talk to people about it a lot and reckon that there are many more people out there with some sort of food intolerance or allergy, they just don't realise it. And don't listen to me!!! Haha the voice of experience eh.

Alpro Hazelnut Drink
I just had to share this! It's amazing and is good for baking scones too :-)
Found is in Asda about £1.50 or thereabouts!
It's weird, it tastes very chocolate like but as you can see from the ingredients not got any!
Good to drink and good to cook with :-)

Lactase
Ah the mighty enzyme that my body lacks.
I usually buy mine from Holland & Barrett for about £10. It's ridiculously dear! And it's not a big seller so tends to be in their offers. Got two bottles for about £10.50 last time because it was in the buy 1 get 1 for a 1p deal.
Do you find it works for you?
The only time I use it is when I'm going out for dinner. I certainly don't make a habit of using it anywhere else, as I ain't gonna risk having any lactose!
We often go out to either Chinese or Japanese restaurants and I'm usually safe there, but I always take 2 or 3. It worries me that I could get the side effects. I guess since most Orientals suffer the same problem, that's probably why I'm okay with their food.
I certainly can't have any Indian food from restaurants or takeaways. Damn the ghee and the cream. All Indian food that we have, Mr non-Lactose Intolerant makes it usually with coconut milk. Yummy yummy.
Any other places we go, I usually ask for the Vegan option as they don't understand about LI. Drives me mad in this modern world. Oh well can't have everything LOL.
If you have such a low tolerance like me, I wouldn't recommend using it to eat any lactose food. Because sometimes it doesn't work and you still feel crap. If your tolerance is higher, then you should be okay. Go for the cheesecake!!!! :-)

Home Made Pizza, well sort of!
I bought some ciabattas from Sainsbury's the other day and had an idea to make a pizza.
I used the ciabattas, Asda's own brand of sun-dried tomatoes and my favourite hard goats cheese - see HERE.
Before it went into the over:
And after 10 mins in the over at 180 this is how they looked:
They tasted awesome :-) This oil from sun-dried tomatoes worked a treat with the ciabatta.
Highly recommend. Any ciabatta or even baguette would do.

May Contain Traces Of Milk pt 2
I refer to my previous post in March May Contain Traces of Milk and have had to actually stop eating anything with this or Produced in a Factory that Handles Milk.
Have bought a few things recently and not been too grand. So I decided to stop eating stuff with this and am feeling a good bit better.
Lesson learned, perhaps!

Home Made Sausage Rolls
Not been about for a while. Sorry!
So I'm not a fan of 'real' sausage rolls because I find they often have milk in them or are too greasy. So I usually make my own with Puff Pastry and Veggie Sausage mix from Asda.
Always better when it's reduced lol!
The sausage mix is pretty easy to use, just add water, stir and let sit for 5 mins. I usually add some pepper, salt and rosemary (if I have some). This is what it looks like before and after the water is added.

While the mix is sitting for the 5 mins, I usually roll out the puff pastry and cut into sorta what resembles a rectangle. Then once the mix is ready, get some and roll it into a vague sausage shape and wrap the pastry around it. Pop them in the oven for about 20 mins at 190.
The end product.
They might not look like the ones you buy from Greggs or the likes, but they sure taste yummy and make my tummy happy :-)

So what Margarine do I use? Vitalite
Yup it's dairy free and has dairy free plastered all over it, sort of!
I think we started buying this one as Pure had gone up in price. Been using it for about a year now, so must like it.
I don't miss butter at all, was never a big butter eater before I found out.

Tesco Baked Beans & Vegetarian Sausages
I'm not a fan of real sausages and always eat the veggie ones wherever possible. Weird I know! Saw this and just had to try it with toast.
And the ingredients:
How it looked in the pot.
The end product on some Mothers Pride.
Quite hot steam steam steam!
This was okay as a quick snack. It's carbs city though! The sausages were nice and the beans, well just tasted like beans to me! I'd have it again for sure. Good comfort food.
